Most yosemite bear pictures are snapshots that are taken quickly without much thought being given to composition or lighting, and are really pretty "ordinary".

The only person that might have a photographic print of these produced to hang on the wall, would be the photographer.

The bear pictures that you will find on this page fall into an entirely different category.

All are outstanding subjects, beautifully composed and shot. Worthy of the walls in your house!

Take a look and see if you don't agree...

"Berry" Bear

Bears are opportunists that will eat just about anything that they can swallow. Berries are much tastier than grass to be sure, as the look on this little Black Bear cubs face shows!

Bear Cubs Up A Tree

From an early age, little bears are encouraged by their mothers to climb the nearest tree when danger threatens. A little bear needs to be afraid of other bears most often. This is especially true of big males. The mother bear knows that other bears may try to hurt her cubs just because they ARE vulnerable, and a tree is a good place for them to be then!

Little Bear...Just Hanging Around

All bears like to climb...even the big bears! There are many reasons that little bears may be seen hanging from a tree, including games with others. A funny thing about bears is that they always "back" their way down any tree that they have climbed. "Backing down" seems to always be a much more clumsy process than "going up" ever was!

Bear Cub Playing On A Log

One of the most entertaining things about watching bear cubs is that they can make a game out of every situation. Even a cub that is alone can find some fun. More than one and watch out!

Mother bear has a full time job trying to keep the cubs from getting into trouble, and will not hesitate to give them a swat on the bottom if they don't "mind" her!

Bear "Right Of Way"

Bears are very smart and soon learn that a road is where you can find people...and food! Once they decide to stop traffic, there isn't much that can be done about the situation until they have had enough, and decide to leave.

Many visitors  to a National Park where there are bears, have found themselves at a standstill on the road while the bears beg for food.

This sign is a fun reminder of just who is "in charge" in our national parks!

Little Bear Looking For Mama

When bear cubs are newborn, before they begin feeling more independent, they stay very close to their mothers. This is not only for safety sake, but also because they are hungry most of the time.

Bears are not known for seeing well, and when mother bear is out of sight of the baby and he begins to worry, he will begin "bawling" for her.

This little bear is on the search, and making a whole lot of noise in the process!

Mother Black Bear Bathes Her Baby

Animal mothers are devoted to their babies, and black bear mothers are some of the most devoted of them all.

She will usually have two to three cubs at a time...sometimes there will be more.

The cubs will often be of different colors, from the most common brown or black to a much lighter brown. A bear of this particular color is often referred to as a "cinnamon" bear.

Dreaming Of Dinner

Whether little or fully grown, Yosemite's Black Bears are all "clowns".

Being around them, (as we were living in the valley for all of those years), their behavior had to be absolutely outrageous for us to be surprised by it. We had seen just about everything from them.

Their unpredictable nature, unquenchable curiosity, and willingness to try anything that might result in something to eat, made them some of the best photographic subjects available.

A perfect example is this big bear, a small rock, and something in the water looking really "yummy"!

Crying For His Mama

Though still very young, this little black bear cub has learned that the first thing that he is to do if something scares him is to climb a tree.

Because he is still so young, this has not allowed him any feelings of security though, and "bawling for mama" behavior has soon taken over.

He knows that even though he can't see her, that she is nearby and will come to him when she hears him. She will be pleased that he is in the tree just like she taught him, and will encourage his behavior!
